Football Game Preview: Monmouth Regional Falcons vs. Ocean Township Spartans

The Monmouth Regional Falcons will challenge the Ocean Township Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

On Friday, Monmouth Regional came up short against New Egypt and fell 26-13. The Falcons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Monmouth Regional got top-tier performance from Tyler Gustafson, who rushed for 120 yards and two touchdowns. Gustafson's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his sixth straight game with at least 102 rushing yards.

Meanwhile, Ocean Township ended up a good deal behind Central Regional on Friday and lost 29-14. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey football rankings (they are ranked 203rd, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 100th).

Ocean Township now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Monmouth Regional, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.

Monmouth Regional took a serious blow against Ocean Township when the teams last played back in September of 2019, falling 41-6. Can the Falcons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
