Softball Recap: Rio Mesa's Losing Streak Snapped at Three Games

Oxnard typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Rio Mesa proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with an 8-4 win over the Yellowjackets. This was payback for the Spartans, who suffered a 5-3 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Analia Lopez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jocelyn Gomez, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Rihyana Alvarez, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

The victory snapped Rio Mesa's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 15-9 record. As for Oxnard, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 16-8-1.

Rio Mesa will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Yellowjackets: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
