Basketball Recap: Woodville-Tompkins Comes Up Short

Woodville-Tompkins played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the Vidalia Indians, falling 70-31. While losing is never fun, the Wolverines can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 437th, while the Indians are ranked 110th).

Despite the loss, Woodville-Tompkins still got an impressive performance from Leiera Pusha, who posted six points in addition to 16 boards and five steals. The dominant performance gave Pusha a new career-high in rebounds. Another player making a difference was Cassidy Freeman, who scored eight points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Woodville-Tompkins smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive games.

Vidalia was led to victory by Hannah Nichols and Cori Warner. Nichols went 7 for 15 on her way to 22 points and eight boards, while Warner dropped a triple-double on ten points, 13 rebounds, and 13 assists. Nichols' evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Takaiyah Bacon, who had eight points along with 11 boards and three blocks.

Woodville-Tompkins dropped their record down to 4-18 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Vidalia, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-6.

Woodville-Tompkins didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 51-42 defeat against Swainsboro on the 8th. Vidalia does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
