Baseball Game Preview: Richland Royals vs. Grapevine Mustangs

Richland hasn't had much luck against Grapevine recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Royals will face off against the Mustangs at 7:30 p.m.

Azle hit Richland with a five-run second inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Royals fell just short of the Hornets by a score of 10-8.

Caleb Wallace was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Aidan Ward also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Grapevine had already won 12 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it 13 on Friday. They didn't even let the Hawks on the board, marking their second-straight 7-0 shutout. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Richland's loss dropped their record down to 8-17-1. As for Grapevine, their victory bumped their record up to 24-3.

Richland suffered a grim 17-1 defeat to Grapevine in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Can the Royals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
