Screven County suffers sixth straight loss at home

Recap: Screven County Gamecocks vs. Johnson County Trojans

The Screven County Gamecocks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their ninth straight loss. They took a 55-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of Johnson County. Screven County found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post 17 fewer assists than your opponent.

Despite the loss, Screven County saw an underclassman step up: Lavez Roper scored nine points. Deven Oliver was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds.

Johnson County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cory King, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. King also grabbed two+ steals for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Javaris Duckworth, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds.

Screven County bumped their record down to 2-11 with that loss, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Johnson County, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Screven County will take on Claxton at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Claxton is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak. As for Johnson County, they will head out on the road to challenge Hancock Central at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Averaging 64 so far this season, Hancock Central's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Johnson County better be ready for a challenge.
