Softball Recap: Hermon Takes Down Ranked Ellsworth

Hermon faced Ellsworth in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Hawks blew past the Eagles 14-3. The victory was familiar territory for the Hawks, who have now won six games in a row.

Braelyn Wilcox was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Wilcox was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with six RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, Molly Simcox was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Mikelle Verrill, who went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.

Hermon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in May of 2024.

Hermon pushed their record up to 9-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Ellsworth, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.

Coming up, Hermon will square off against Brewer at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Ellsworth, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 15-5 win against Presque Isle on the 17th.
