Appomattox County is 9-1 against Gretna since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Raiders will host the Hawks at 6:00 p.m. Appomattox County is coming into the contest hot, having won their last 11 games.
On Friday, Appomattox County made easy work of Dan River and carried off a 14-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won 12 matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Paisley Mann and Chloe Vaughan made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Mann pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Vaughan tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Mann has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. At the plate, Mann went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Vaughan went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, MaKenzie Elliott and Bailey Hamilton did most of the damage at the plate: Elliott went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base, while Hamilton went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those three stolen bases gave Hamilton a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Bryant, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Appomattox County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dan River only posted an OBP of .211.
Chatham hit Gretna with a four-run sixth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Hawks fell just short of the Cavaliers by a score of 6-5. The Hawks haven't had much luck with the Cavaliers recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Alyssa Keesee put in work no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. Keesee was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Sophia Brooks made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.
Appomattox County pushed their record up to 18-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Gretna, their loss dropped their record down to 7-11.
Gretna's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Appomattox County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .350. It's a different story for Gretna, though, as they've only averaged .206. Will they be able to contain Appomattox County's hitters?
