Basketball Recap: Cole Comes Up Short

Cole fought the good fight in their overtime game against Randolph on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 46-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Randolph Ro-Hawks. The Cougars were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Ro-Hawks earlier this season, when they won 48-43.

Despite the loss, Cole saw an underclassman step up: freshman Avaya Brundidge went 6-for-13 en route to 18 points and eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Makalee Chambers, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 11 boards.

Even though they lost, Cole smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Cole's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 21-15. As for Randolph, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-13.

Cole has already played their next contest, a 68-50 loss against Jourdanton on the 11th. As for Randolph, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 44-32 victory against Natalia on the 10th.
