Basketball Recap: Winside Skates Past Newman Grove/St. Edward with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Winside). They claimed a resounding 64-29 win over the Newman Grove/St. Edward Panthers. The Wildcats pushed the score to 50-26 by the end of the third, a deficit the Panthers had little chance of recovering from.

Winside found their leader in freshman Aftyn Schutt, who went 10-for-15 en route to 22 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Schutt has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ellie Topp, who shot 50% from the field on her way to 15 points in addition to eight boards and three steals.

Winside was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

When it comes to explaining why Newman Grove/St. Edward lost on Tuesday, don't look at Allyx Forre. Despite the final result, she posted 14 points and three steals. Forre also put up a block, which was her first of the season.

Winside's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Newman Grove/St. Edward, their defeat was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-4.

Coming up, Winside will be home for the holidays to greet Tri County Northeast at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Newman Grove/St. Edward, they will venture away from home to challenge Burwell at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers will be up against the Longhorns' rather soft defense (which has allowed 50.5 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
