Basketball Recap: Aaron Tena's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Wray over Skyview Academy

Wray and SkyView Academy squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Wray had to settle for second. They fell to the SkyView Academy Hawks 62-56. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 127th, while the Hawks are ranked 35th).

Wray lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Aaron Tena, who posted 14 points and eight rebounds. He has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 12 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Angel Santizo, who earned six points and five steals.

SkyView Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Markus Lloyd, who went 6-for-12 on his way to 16 points and six boards. Isaac Dove was another key player, shooting 43% from the field en route to 14 points along with six rebounds and five assists.

Wray's loss dropped their record down to 10-15. As for SkyView Academy, the win (which was their 16th in a row) raised their record to 22-3.

Wray does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for SkyView Academy, they will square off against Windsor Charter Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in SkyView Academy's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 15 contests.
