Baseball Recap: Batavia Starts Season with Win Against Clermont Northeastern

Batavia took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Saturday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Clermont Northeastern Rockets a 10-0 shutout. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Rockets recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

The team relied heavily on Max Mehlman, who scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Derek Richardson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two triples, three RBI, and one run.

Batavia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clermont Northeastern only posted an OBP of .167.

Clermont Northeastern's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Batavia wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 21-0 victory against Fayetteville-Perry on the 29th. As for Clermont Northeastern, they have also already played their next matchup, a 6-4 win against Bethel-Tate on the 2nd.
