Baseball Game Preview: Allegany Campers vs. Hedgesville Eagles

The Allegany Campers will head out on the road to take on the Hedgesville Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Allegany barely beat Fort Hill the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Allegany was the clear victor by a 15-1 margin over Fort Hill on Friday. That looming 15-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Campers yet this season.

Meanwhile, Hedgesville came tearing into Friday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 6-1. The game was the first time the Eagles have beaten the Bulldogs on their field since April 19, 2024.

Mason McGill spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 15 Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brett Pedersen, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. That stolen base was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Elliott, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base.

Hedgesville's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Allegany, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

Allegany beat Hedgesville 9-6 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Allegany since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
