Softball Recap: Key West Now 8-1 over Last Nine Games

Key West had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They had just enough and edged out the Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Conchs have posted since March 29th.

Brianna Brenner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Maciee Gage, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.

Key West is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Archbishop McCarthy, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-8.

Looking ahead, Key West will take on American Heritage at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Conchs 4, the Patriots 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Archbishop McCarthy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
