Baseball Game Preview: Pearland Oilers vs. Manvel Mavericks

The Pearland Oilers will take on the Manvel Mavericks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pearland's pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so Manvel's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

On Saturday, Pearland made easy work of Manvel and carried off a 10-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Oilers, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Jaden Ornelas tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Aidan Avalos and Nicholas Partida did most of the damage at the plate: Avalos scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Partida went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. The dominant performance gave Avalos a new career-high in hits. Another player making a difference was Trey Brown, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-4.

Pearland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Pearland has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. Manvel is on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-7.
