Softball Recap: Liberty Comes Up Short

Liberty dropped down to 16-13 on Saturday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 20-4 to the Marana Tigers. The Lions were not able to make up for their defeat to the Tigers from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Liberty saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brooklyn Calsyn, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

As for Marana, they pushed their record up to 28-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won 20 matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

On Marana's side, Aubrianna Gray looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. Gray has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Bella Corona was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, nine RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2025. Makenzi Sledge was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Looking ahead, Liberty will welcome Hamilton at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Huskies have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. As for Marana, they will venture away from home to take on Pinnacle at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pioneers have averaged an impressive 9.3 runs per game this season.
