Baseball Game Preview: Avery County Vikings vs. Mitchell Mountaineers

For the second straight game, Avery County will face off against Mitchell. The Vikings will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mountaineers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Avery County is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.

Avery County managed to slip by Mitchell the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Vikings came up short against the Mountaineers on Monday, falling 12-4.

For Mitchell's part, Riley Silver was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. Silver was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Mitchell got a massive performance out of Kaj Pitman, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Pitman has become a key player for the Mountaineers: the team is 6-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Buchanan, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Mitchell now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Avery County, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-13.
