Basketball Recap: Spanish River Takes a Loss

Spanish River fought the good fight in their overtime contest against FAU High on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 40-39 to the FAU High Owls. The loss leaves the Sharks without a win on the season.

When it comes to explaining why Spanish River lost, don't look at Devan Degiuseppe. Despite the final result, he posted 17 points. The dominant performance also gave Degiuseppe a new career-high in boards (four). Julius Coffey was another key player, putting up six points.

FAU High found their leader in freshman Tristan Etienne, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. Those 16 points set a new season-high mark for Etienne. Another player making a difference was Jarret Mauvais, who had seven points and seven boards.

Spanish River's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for FAU High, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.
