The Alma Panthers will venture away from home to face off against the Breckenridge Huskies at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Alma has given up an average of 8.4 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Alma came up short against Frankenmuth on Wednesday, falling 18-1. The Panthers haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Meanwhile, Breckenridge entered their tilt with Coleman on Friday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They were the clear victors by an 11-2 margin over the Comets. The result was nothing new for the Huskies, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Leah Wale made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with six RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Emma Tinson was incredible, going a perfect 5-for-5 with five runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April. Ava Colthorp was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Breckenridge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .447. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive matchups.
Breckenridge pushed their record up to 11-9 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Alma, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
Alma suffered a grim 9-1 defeat to Breckenridge in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
