Recap: Fruitdale Pirates vs. Jackson Aggies
The Fruitdale Pirates struggled with assists on Tuesday (the Jackson Aggies had 13 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Fruitdale was outmatched by Jackson on the road and fell 64-10. While losing is never fun, Fruitdale can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 274th, while Jackson is ranked 33rd).
Makayia Crager was Fruitdale's leading scorer, having posted five points.
Anaya Smith held things down on the boards with ten rebounds. She took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with an assist.
Jackson found their leader in underclassman Angel Powell, who scored 19 points. Those 19 points set a new season-high mark for her. Jazmine Jones was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with three steals.
Fruitdale bumped their record down to 2-5 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 18.3 points per game. As for Jackson, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 9-1.
Fruitdale will head out on the road to face off against Millry at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Jackson and Clarke County will face off at 6:00 p.m. on December 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
