Baseball Game Preview: Medina Bobcats vs. Menard Yellowjackets

Medina has gone 9-1 against Menard recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Bobcats will venture away from home to square off against the Yellowjackets at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Medina barely beat Leakey the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bobcats put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 16-4 victory on Tuesday. The win was nothing new for the Bobcats as they're now sitting on five straight.

Holland Cook was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, Jaxon Kunz was a standout: he scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Silva, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Menard, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Leakey a 17-0 shutout on Friday. The Yellowjackets have beaten the Eagles the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Eagles has come to flipping the script.

Medina's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Menard, their record now sits at 3-7.

Medina took their victory against Menard in their previous meeting last Tuesday by a conclusive 15-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bobcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
