Baseball Game Preview: Alexander Central Cougars vs. North Davidson Black Knights

The Alexander Central Cougars will face off against the North Davidson Black Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games Alexander Central has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Alexander Central is headed into the match having just suffered their closest loss since April 19, 2024 on Saturday. They fell just short of North Iredell by a score of 5-3. The game marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Alexander Central got a good showing from Grayson Anderson, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Anderson a new career-low in walks (one).

On the hitting side, Alexander Central saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Wade Queen, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. That stolen base marked the first that Queen snagged this season.

Even though they lost, Alexander Central hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Iredell struck out 12 times.

Meanwhile, North Davidson came up short against West Stokes on Saturday, falling 13-4. The Black Knights have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Alexander Central's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for North Davidson, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.

Alexander Central skirted past North Davidson 4-3 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Will Alexander Central repeat their success, or does North Davidson have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
