Basketball Recap: Carson Comes Up Short

Carson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a hard 58-42 fall against the Damonte Ranch Mustangs. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Senators this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 54-50 on January 3rd.

When it comes to explaining why Carson lost, don't look at Lauren Finnerty. Despite the final result, she posted 15 points. That was a full 35.7% of Carson's points, marking the third time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points.

Leading Damonte Ranch to victory were Mya Ghisletta and Kylee Moscove. Ghisletta dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 boards, while Moscove had 15 points. Ghisletta has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was A?Laya Washington, who put up four points and 15 rebounds.

Carson's loss dropped their record down to 7-13. As for Damonte Ranch, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-16 record.

Carson and Damonte Ranch could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Nevada Rankings. Carson (ranked 44th) will meet Reed (ranked eighth) at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Damonte Ranch will square off against Reno at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday down 41 places (46 vs. 5).
