Softball Recap: Walden Grove Has No Trouble Against Sahuaro

Walden Grove never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the Sahuaro Cougars. The Red Wolves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by 11 runs or more this season.

Maddie Holzer was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Walden Grove let Isabel Higuera and Hannah Montijo run wild. Higuera went 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Montijo scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits Montijo has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ariah Ramirez, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.

Walden Grove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for Walden Grove and bumps their season record up to 7-6. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Sahuaro, they dropped their record down to 0-7 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Walden Grove will venture away from home to face off against Safford at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Sahuaro, they will head out to take on Catalina Foothills at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars are facing the Falcons at the right time seeing as the Falcons are stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
