Payson dropped their record down to 8-14 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Provo Bulldogs by a score of 3-1. If the Lions were looking for revenge after losing 7-4 to the Bulldogs when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Payson saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ty Marvin, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
As for Provo, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-8. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of two runs across that stretch.
On Provo's side, Gehrig Orchard made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off eight hits (and only one walk). Orchard has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Dawson Moore was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.
The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Provo beat Payson by a score of 8-3 on Wednesday.
