Softball Recap: Mattoon Greenwave vs. Tri-County [Kansas/Shiloh/Oakland] Titans
Mattoon had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. They were the clear victor by a 24-0 margin over the Tri-County [Kansas/Shiloh/Oakland] Titans. The Greenwave have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Titans, too.
Hanna Griffin looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. What's more, she gave up only three hits, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, Micheala Starwalt was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and five RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Aylexis Otto, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI.
Mattoon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tri-County [Kansas/Shiloh/Oakland] only posted an OBP of .200.
This is the second loss in a row for Tri-County [Kansas/Shiloh/Oakland] and nudges their season record down to 0-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mattoon will welcome Newton at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Tri-County [Kansas/Shiloh/Oakland], they will be playing at home against Georgetown-Ridge Farm at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
