Section 6 B - North recap October 1, 2013
Burgard/Math Science Tech Prep at Seneca moved up to 64 from 215 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Section 6 B - North. The Bulldogs were able to move up by topping Medina/Webber 51-12.
Bennett/Olmsted was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from seventh to fifth in the league. Earlier in the week, the Tigers defeated Lewiston-Porter 36-14.
Marshawn Gibson was a force in the backfield as Cheektowaga bested Amherst Central.
Gibson provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Warriors defeated the Tigers. Gibson's key target this week was Hakiem Black, who caught 5 passes for 124 yards.
John Warne threw for 145 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Gibson was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 256 yards on 16 carries as Cheektowaga beat Amherst Central. Teammate Preston Summers added to the ground attack by rushing for 71 yards.
Leading Section 6 B - North in both passing and receiving yards, the Mustangs' Jason Hellwig and Kyle Barna have proven to be a lethal combination. Hellwig has thrown for 728 yards this season, while Barna, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 16 catches for 303 yards. Mike Fatta's team's Gibson leads the league in rushing yards with 622.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Medina/Webber takes on the Lancers. Eric Valley's team is in second place, while Lewiston-Porter is in fourth place.
Burgard/Math Science Tech Prep at Seneca added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Mustangs, 51-12. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
