It's awfully early, but the nation's No. 1 dual-threat quarterback from the Class of 2018 Phil Jurkovec has committed to Notre Dame.

The 6-foot-5, 190-pound sophomore from Pine-Richland (Gibsonia, Pa.) is rated the No. 9 player overall from his class according to the 247Sports Composite and follows in the line of many other blue chip QBs who have committed to Brian Kelly.

Among the names from the past are Brandon Wimbush (2015), DeShone Kizer (2014), Malik Zaire (2013) and Gunner Kiel (2012).

Last season as a sophomore, Jurkovec completed 176 of 265 passes for 2,560 yards and 20 touchdowns (four interceptions).

Unlike most positions, quarterbacks tend to keep their college commitments. If he doesn't, Jurkovec has plenty of options with 16 offers already on the table, including Alabama, Ohio State and UCLA.

He appears quite committed to the Irish, making the announcement during a visit to the school on Monday. He's the first Notre Dame commit from the Class of 2018.

"I came up here with the intent of committing," Jurkovec told 247Sports reporter Steve Wiltfong. "It's the right fit for me. The whole education of Notre Dame from the books to the spirituality, the whole university and everything that it offers, I just fell in love with it."
