Softball Recap: Maple Grove Red Dragons vs. Westfield Wolverines

Maple Grove was the 12-11 winner over Westfield when they last played one another back in May of 2025, but their luck changed this time around. The Red Dragons fell 10-5 to the Wolverines on Wednesday. The Red Dragons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meg Ryan was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and eight unearned) runs off 12 hits (and only one walk). With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.8 strikeouts per game. She was also solid in the batter's box, earning one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

Ryan wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Savannah Weart, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Dani Trim also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Maple Grove's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Westfield, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Maple Grove will take on Frewsburg at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Westfield, they will challenge Lake Shore at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
