Baseball Preview: Silex Owls vs. New Haven Shamrocks
Silex has gone a perfect 4-0 against New Haven recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Owls will head out on the road to take on the Shamrocks at 5:00 p.m. Silex is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
Silex came out on top against Sturgeon on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fifth inning. The Owls were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over the Bulldogs. The victory was nothing new for the Owls as they're now sitting on three straight.
Chase Mullen made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Kameron Garcia was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Evan Mehler was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, New Haven unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They came up short against St. Clair, falling 9-0. The shutout was out of character for the Shamrocks seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in March.
Silex pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for New Haven, they now have a losing record of 7-8.
Silex skirted past New Haven 2-0 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Owls since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
