Basketball Recap: Bridges Prep Comes Up Short

Bridges Prep played a tough matchup on Wednesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 67-37 loss at the hands of the Hampton County Hurricanes. The Buccaneers lost against the Hurricanes in their previous head to head back in November of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 80-7 score last time.

Despite the defeat, Bridges Prep saw an underclassman step up: freshman Addie Taylor dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 boards. Taylor has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 14 times she's played.

Even though they lost, Bridges Prep smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in ten consecutive contests.

Leading Hampton County to victory were Travaih Henderson and Lyric Jones. Henderson went 7 for 10 to rack up 19 points and three steals, while Jones went 6 of 15 on her way to 13 points and five assists. Those five assists gave Jones a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Malayah Green, who posted six points and four steals.

Bridges Prep's loss dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Hampton County, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.

Bridges Prep didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 62-37 defeat against Lake Marion on the 7th. As for Hampton County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 51-40 victory against Whale Branch on the 7th.
