Softball Game Preview: Bishop Guertin Cardinals vs. Merrimack Tomahawks

The Bishop Guertin Cardinals will head out to take on the Merrimack Tomahawks at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Bishop Guertin's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Merrimack's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Bishop Guertin is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Hampshire's top teams: Timberlane, who was ranked 19th at the time (Bishop Guertin was ranked 13th). The Cardinals had just enough and edged out the Owls 8-6.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Merrimack, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They blew past Keene 6-0 on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Tomahawks in their matchups with the Blackbirds: they've now won five in a row.

Bishop Guertin pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Merrimack, the victory got them back to even at 4-4-1.

Bishop Guertin came up short against Merrimack in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, falling 5-1. Can the Cardinals avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
