Basketball Recap: Goreville Blackcats vs. Vienna Eagles

The Goreville Blackcats entered their tilt with the Vienna Eagles with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Goreville walked away with a 69-62 win over the Eagles on Thursday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.

Leading Goreville to victory were Breanna Suits and Abby Compton. Suits scored 21 points along with eight assists and five rebounds, while Compton dropped a double-double on 32 points and 11 rebounds. Compton is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 16 or more in the last 11 games she's played. Kyndall Webb was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with two steals.

Goreville's win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 27-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.6 points per game. As for Vienna, their defeat dropped their record down to 22-7.

Goreville does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Vienna will look to defend their home court on Saturday against the Wildcats at 1:00 p.m. Anna-Jonesboro has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 6.
