Baseball Game Preview: Iola Mustangs vs. Wellsville Eagles

The Iola Mustangs will head out to take on the Wellsville Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Neither Iola nor Wellsville posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Iola's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Friday's struggle, when Emporia hitters got past them. The Mustangs lost 13-1 to the Spartans on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Mustangs have suffered since April 18th.

Meanwhile, Wellsville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Baldwin. Surprisingly, this marked the Eagles' sixth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Iola has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-6 record this season. As for Wellsville, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-16.

Iola couldn't quite finish off Wellsville when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 2-0. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
