Football Recap: Starmount Continues Home Dominance on Friday

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Starmount). Their defense stepped up to hand the Ashe County Huskies a 56-0 shutout on Friday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Rams' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 148th, while the Huskies are ranked 320th).

Deuce Best was the offensive standout of the contest as he threw for 196 yards and four touchdowns while completing 90% of his passes. Those four passing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. 91 of Best's passing yards were hauled in by Aamir Adams, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 20 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Ryley Rodriguez, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

Starmount's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 42.9 points over those games. As for Ashe County, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.

Starmount does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Ashe County, they will square off against West Iredell at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Huskies will need to watch out since the Warriors have now posted at least 31 points in their last three games.
