Basketball Recap: Angleton Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

After losing to Texas City the last time they met, Angleton decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Angleton Wildcats came out on top against the Texas City Stingarees by a score of 69-58 on Friday. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 326th, while the Stingarees are ranked 910th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Angleton found their leader in freshman Bryson Campbell, who went 9 of 14 en route to 24 points along with five assists and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Miles, who went 6 of 9 on his way to 15 points in addition to four blocks and three steals.

Angleton was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.

Despite the loss, Texas City still got an impressive performance from Tristen Blackmon, who went 6 for 13 on his way to 20 points and five boards. That's the most points Blackmon has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Lloyd Pete, who posted 11 points and five boards.

Angleton now has a winning record of 14-13. As for Texas City, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-17.

Angleton will take on Ball at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Texas City, they will face off against Iowa Colony at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
