Basketball Recap: Maddox Palmer Key Part of a Team Effort in Sharks Win

Ponte Vedra won the last time they faced San Jose Prep and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Ponte Vedra Sharks took down the San Jose Prep Storm 62-45. Given the Sharks' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 88th, while the Storm are ranked 480th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Ponte Vedra's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Maddox Palmer, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 boards. The dominant performance gave Palmer a new career-high in rebounds. Trace Westercamp was another key player, going 6 of 14 on his way to 13 points.

Ponte Vedra smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive contests.

Ponte Vedra has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. As for San Jose Prep, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-14.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ponte Vedra will welcome Nease at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Ponte Vedra knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Nease likes a good challenge. As for San Jose Prep, they will be playing at home against Episcopal School of Jacksonville at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
