Baseball Game Preview: Mission Viejo Diablos vs. Capistrano Valley Christian Eagles

The Mission Viejo Diablos will challenge the Capistrano Valley Christian Eagles at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Mission Viejo fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Dana Hills on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Dolphins.

Joey Pallone was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with one double and one RBI. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (three). Another player making a difference was Jacob Powley, who scored a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Capistrano Valley Christian came up short against Torrance on Saturday and fell 6-1. The defeat continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Tartars: they've now lost three in a row.

Capistrano Valley Christian saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Drake Bothwell, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.

Capistrano Valley Christian's loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Mission Viejo, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season.

Mission Viejo beat Capistrano Valley Christian 5-0 in their previous matchup back in February of 2020. Will Mission Viejo repeat their success, or does Capistrano Valley Christian have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
