Basketball Recap: Charlotte Catholic Beats South Mecklenburg for Their Fourth Straight Victory + How To Watch

Charlotte Catholic extended their winning streak to four on Tuesday, bumping them up to 6-1. They came within five points of losing the streak, but they secured a 66-61 W against the South Mecklenburg Sabres. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Cougars' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 28th, while the Sabres are ranked 164th).

Charlotte Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jack Siegel led the charge by dropping a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Siegel's big performance that evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points. Another player making a difference was Mack Jordan, who shot 50% from the field to rack up 15 points and three steals.

Charlotte Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.

As for South Mecklenburg, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since December 6, 2018, but that streak is no more.

Despite the loss, South Mecklenburg still got an impressive performance from Jim Gatehouse, who went 8-for-16 on his way to 21 points and seven boards. Ben Houpt was another key player, putting up 16 points.

Looking ahead, Charlotte Catholic will host Weddington at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars will be up against the Warriors' rather soft defense (which has allowed 59.5 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for South Mecklenburg, they will venture away from home to face off against Mallard Creek at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
