Baseball Recap: Eastern Lebanon County Raiders vs. Garden Spot Spartans

Eastern Lebanon County had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over the Garden Spot Spartans on Monday. The victory was just what Eastern Lebanon County needed coming off of a 16-6 defeat in their prior matchup.

Morgan Shanaman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned run off one hit (he also didn't allow any walks). Shanaman was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Bryant Auker and Dallas George did most of the damage at the plate: Auker scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-2, while George scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Like Eastern Lebanon County, Garden Spot also got a great game from a two-way player: Caleb Zimmerman. On the mound, he tossed an inning while giving up no earned runs or hits (he also only allowed one walk). Zimmerman has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive pitching appearances. Eastern Lebanon County's win ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-4. As for Garden Spot, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Eastern Lebanon County will challenge Octorara Area at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Garden Spot, they will head out on the road to take on Donegal at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Donegal will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Garden Spot surely won't give up without a fight.
