Preview: San Benito Greyhounds vs. Rivera Raiders
The San Benito Greyhounds will head out on the road to take on the Rivera Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with nine consecutive losses for San Benito and four for Rivera.
Last Tuesday, things could have been worse for San Benito, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 43-24 loss to Weslaco.
Meanwhile, Rivera pushed their score all the way to 58 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. The match between them and Los Fresnos wasn't particularly close, with Rivera falling 74-58. Rivera has not had much luck with Los Fresnos recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Enrique Torres, who scored 17 points. It was the first time this season that he scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Elias Rodarte, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
San Benito has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 13 of their last 14 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-17 record this season. As for Rivera, their loss dropped their record down to 17-14.
San Benito might still be hurting after the 58-36 defeat they got from Rivera in their previous matchup back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Rodarte, who scored 15 points along with six steals. Now that San Benito knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
