Houston Christian hasn't had much luck against HCYA recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Houston Christian Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against HCYA at 5:00 p.m. Houston Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
Last Tuesday, Houston Christian made easy work of Legacy School of Sport Sciences and carried off a 12-2 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.
Millie Metz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single hit, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in February of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Yazmine Johnson and Quincy Zoretic did most of the damage at the plate: Johnson went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base, while Zoretic scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Emma Estrada was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Houston Christian hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, HCYA hadn't done well against Grand Oaks recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. HCYA walked away with a 6-3 win over Grand Oaks.
Like Houston Christian, HCYA also got a great game from a two-way player: Milynnzi Hall. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts Hall has posted since back in March of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kiran Kyham, who scored a run while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Eloni Preston, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Houston Christian pushed their record up to 6-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 12 hits in those games compared to only 5.25 in the others. As for HCYA, their win bumped their record up to 19-5-4.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Houston Christian hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .338. However, it's not like HCYA struggles in that department as they've averaged .362. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Houston Christian might still be hurting after the 13-2 defeat they got from HCYA in their previous meeting back in February. Can Houston Christian avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
