Softball Recap: Doniphan West Has No Trouble Against Troy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Doniphan West). They were the clear victors by a 16-6 margin over the Troy Trojans on Thursday. This was a revenge game for the Mustangs: when they faced off against the Trojans on Thursday, they had to take a 8-7 defeat.

Clara Feighner made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

In other batting news, Brennah Edie was a standout: she scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Those stolen bases marked the first that she snagged this season. Brooklyn Rawles was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

Doniphan West always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory got Doniphan West back to even at 2-2. As for Troy, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Doniphan West will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Onaga at 4:30 p.m. on the 21st. As for Troy, they will head out to face off against Riverside [Wathena/Elwood] at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Trojans will need to watch out since the Cyclones have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups.
