Football Game Preview: Mathis Pirates vs. Orange Grove Bulldogs

Mathis hasn't had much luck against Orange Grove recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Pirates will challenge the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Friday.

Mathis lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Palacios, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's game. The Pirates never let the Sharks get on the board and left with a 22-0 victory on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Pirates.

Meanwhile, Orange Grove really took it to Aransas Pass for the full four quarters, racking up a 55-26 win. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Mathis better keep an eye on Daniel Bahn. He was instrumental in Orange Grove's win, rushing for 180 yards on only nine carries. Bahn's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his sixth straight game with at least 112 rushing yards.

Orange Grove was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 411 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 171 rushing yards in six consecutive contests.

Mathis picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 3-5. As for Orange Grove, their record now sits at 7-1.

Mathis might still be hurting after the 38-13 loss they got from Orange Grove when the teams last played back in November of 2024. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
