Softball Game Preview: St. Edmund Fighting Blue Jays vs. Opelousas Catholic Vikings

St. Edmund hasn't had much luck against Opelousas Catholic recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Fighting Blue Jays will take on the Vikings at 4:00 p.m.

St. Edmund is headed into Thursday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Tuesday. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sacred Heart.

Meanwhile, Opelousas Catholic came tearing into Wednesday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Bulldogs 14-2. With that win, the Vikings brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Ashley Little made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Opelousas Catholic got a big performance out of Grace Luna, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Madison Ludeau was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Opelousas Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as David Thibodaux only posted an OBP of .250.

Opelousas Catholic pushed their record up to 12-9 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for St. Edmund, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-9.

St. Edmund might still be hurting after the 20-0 loss they got from Opelousas Catholic in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Fighting Blue Jays avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
