The Giles Spartans will take on the Radford Bobcats at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, Giles put up the most points they have all season on Tuesday. They walked away with a 10-5 victory over Galax. The win continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Maroon Tide: they've now won three in a row.
Brady Thwaites was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Thwaites was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Josiah Schlueter was incredible, going 3-for-4 with five stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Tanner Pearman, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-1.
Meanwhile, Radford gave up the first runs on Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They put the hurt on Galax with a sharp 13-2 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bobcats.
Like Giles, Radford also got a great game from a two-way player: Parker Billings. On the mound, Billings pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Blake Farmer tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At the plate, Billings went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI, while Farmer went a perfect 5-for-5 with four stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jack Farmer, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Joyce, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
Giles' first win this season bumped their record up to 1-5-1. As for Radford, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
