Baseball Recap: Bennett Takes a Loss

After flying high against Middle Park on Thursday, Bennett came back down to earth. Bennett fell just short of Sterling by a score of 7-6 on Saturday. The loss continues a trend for Bennett in their meetings with Sterling: they've now lost five in a row.

Bennett saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evan Garner, who went 1-for-5 with two stolen bases and one run. Garner has become a key player for Bennett: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 5-7 otherwise. Diego Madera also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Bennett now has a losing record of 7-8. As for Sterling, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bennett will head out to face off against Jefferson at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Saints have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season. As for Sterling, they will head out on the road to challenge University at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
