Softball Recap: Moniteau Comes Up Short

Moniteau extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 2-7 in the process. They came up short against the New Castle Hurricanes, falling 14-3. The defeat was just more heartbreak for the Warriors, who fell 9-7 when the teams last met back in May of 2023.

Moniteau saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lexi Mcghee, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

As for New Castle, their record is now 6-7. The victory continues a trend for them in their matchups with Moniteau: they've now won three in a row.

On New Castle's side, they got a great performance from Lexi Moyer as she tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. Moyer has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Keara Mangieri, who fired off three home runs, six RBI, and four runs while going 4-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Aliyah Stalczynski, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.

Looking ahead, Moniteau will square off against Redbank Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for New Castle, they will face off against Mars at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Fightin' Planets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.13 runs per game on average), something the Hurricanes will no doubt try to take advantage of.
