Floydada is a perfect 10-0 against Lockney since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Whirlwinds will be playing at home against the Longhorns at 11:00 a.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Floydada comes in on seven and Lockney on three.
Floydada's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Quanah with a sharp 22-0 win. Considering the Whirlwinds have won 20 games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Madison Pyle made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Jenna Martinez was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Rilynn Hinsley, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs.
Floydada was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .714. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Lockney got the win against Claude on Tuesday by a conclusive 15-1. With that victory, the Longhorns brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
Like Floydada, Lockney also got a great game from a two-way player: Madison Marmolejo. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. Marmolejo was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Siya Salazar was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Tori Luna was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI.
Lockney's win bumped their record up to 5-11-1. As for Floydada, their victory bumped their record up to 23-2.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Floydada hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .412. However, it's not like Lockney struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
