Softball Recap: Augusta's Win Ends Four-Game Losing Streak on the Road

Augusta had lost four games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 11-7 on Monday that streak is in the rearview. They walked away with a 5-2 win over the Melrose-Mindoro Mustangs. This was a revenge game for the Beavers: when they faced off against the Mustangs back in April, they had to take a 13-2 loss.

Laney O'Brien spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Augusta's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Sophie Bergman, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

As for Melrose-Mindoro, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 15-3. Their loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

On Melrose-Mindoro's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Emma Severson gave up five runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits.

Coming up, Augusta will take on Independence/Gilmanton at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Melrose-Mindoro, they will be playing at home against Osseo-Fairchild at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
