Softball Game Preview: South Side Rams vs. Burgettstown Blue Devils

The South Side Rams will head out to challenge the Burgettstown Blue Devils at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. South Side is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.

South Side is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 16 runs back in April, they were much more limited against Our Lady of the Sacred Heart two weeks ago. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chargers. The Rams' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

South Side saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brooke McNary, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Burgettstown couldn't beat West Greene on Monday even though they stacked nine runs on them in the fifth inning. The Blue Devils and the Pioneers finished up their game with an 11-11 tie. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Blue Devils' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

South Side's loss dropped their record down to 9-7. Burgettstown's draw gives them a new season record of 4-5-1.

Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. South Side hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .428. However, it's not like Burgettstown struggles in that department as they've averaged .314. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

South Side got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in March of 2025 against Burgettstown by a conclusive 18-5 score. Do the Rams have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Blue Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
